Welcome back to the Healthy Life Podcast... yesterday we spent time outlining assessing the challenges that our stroke has caused. Here is where I said throw off others assessment and you be the boss... think outside the box and don’t take no for an answer! So you should have a good list!
When I am working with stroke survivors this list and the individuals mind set are critical. Why? Because no matter what I say... no matter what I know is possible... unless you believe it and expect it... it will not happen! I know that almost all the people I deal with can regain between 95-100 percent of their pre-stroke self back. If you believe this then keep on listening... if not... eat, drink, and be merry....
The reality is.. our minds are the most powerful thing we possess. They can cause all kinds of things to happen. The next point I outlined yesterday was that we had to research our rehab options. Basically this means... determine the following:
Contrary to popular belief you... not others... control your choices. Others only exert their will when you allow them to. You don’t need expensive exercise equipment or fancy programs... you do need:
Determining a plan requires us to take our list a bit farther. Each item you have listed often requires a strategy of priorities. Those priorities determine what actions that we must take... and so on. The unfortunate challenge that most individuals face is that actions are often too big, seem to require too much, and are shelved too quickly. Because of that... people get discouraged and quit! Chalk one up for the failure side!
I, on the other hand, want you to succeed! It gives me no joy to see failure... in fact just the opposite... that is the one thing that saddens me. Just ask! I’ve included the acronym in the transcript of today’s podcast. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org or anything sent off the stroke.global website if you don’t know how to prioritize I’ll help.
I’m more interested in helping stroke survivors than almost anything in the world... sorry grandkids are right up there! I donate my physical time to our sponsor TCM Restoration and they only accept and work with 30 people per year... and that’s donated time.... not paid... so it’s a matter of helping... not money! The chance of us meeting in person... slim, the chance of us becoming online friends and email partners... high! I still talk with every stroke survivor I’ve had the privilege of helping so... reach out.
Keep in mind that prioritizing is critical because our “time” and “energy” is limited. I don’t want you to devote so much time and energy to rehab that you have none left for anything else. Just as you must walk before you run, there are steps to successful rehabilitation. In fact I’m on the verge of releasing my Do-app and success is the number one thing I focus on. In the Do-app I outline and list the 7 Steps to Success on the top of each main focus area:
Just the way I’ve outlined success in the Do-app, success in your personal rehabilitation is simple! Notice I said simple and not easy... It’s important to understand that success comes from simple consistency not devoting tons of time or energy. But limited time and energy to specific actions and activities. Not just one! This allows us to adapt appropriately in the utilization of our time... to understand that we must determine to heal and live healthy lives. It’s also here where we have to intertwine rewards! After all we are human and we need to see rewards in order to encourage us to continue and persevere!
Well it’s that time...Thanks so much for joining me as we learned more about our options and ways to insure success in our rehab....... join us tomorrow as we learn more specifically how to engage rewards and see success in implementing our plan.
