Welcome back to the Healthy Life Podcast. We want to pause and thank our listeners for taking a few minutes out of your schedule to listen and those who Gass it on.... thanks. Our goal is to help you improve your overall health, mentally , physically, and spiritually. I will never tell you what to believe but I will challenge you that belief is critical. I will never tell you what to think... I’ll just encourage you to engage your brain. I will however share methods and styles of exercises and that’s the exciting focus today’s chat. One of the things we need to be faithful in is utilizing our body! My adage still holds... use it or lose it. It is, however, easy to get discouraged in exercise so it’s important to space it out so it’s effective and fun... not a burden. I often suggest that people alternate arm and leg focus on an every other day basis three days a week (M, W, F) on legs, three days a week (T, Th, S) on arms... and then one day of complete rest!
Today I’ll lay out my basic work out routine and share how it can be modified if mobility is limited.
This is my standard leg work out. I have regained the ability to walk and walk about a mile slowly listening to music daily when it’s not raining. Prior to my walking ability returning I would spend quiet time listening to music. Then and now I follow this with work on word games and/or mind games for 15 to 30 minutes. It’s important to relax the mind and then engage it in mental exercises to maximize its health.
I hope outlining these exercises helps others in building up their exercise time and routine. I know that there are family members and many non-stroke individuals who listen to the podcasts and I can not over stress the importance that maintaining health means. To those who have suffered they have to determine to fight back and regain their health. To those that still have their health... maintain it, treasure it, and protect it!
