News flash... adding 2 hours daily is like adding a 13th month! If I could teach you how to make 2 hours in each of your days more effective would you do it. It would be like adding a 13th month to your year... that’s adding one month - 30 days! Ok you say... I’ll bite... what’s the catch. At least one half of you would say. For the other half you’re asking yourself why add another month of misery to my pathetic life. For the second half... you’re lost in your self pity and there is little I can do to help you until you chose to change your mind set. For the first group of you get ready to rock!
Actually I used to work with growing businesses and you can actually add a month by simply maximizing and multiplying yourself for 30 minutes and then multiplication and synergy do the rest. But how to do it?
There are all kinds of efficiency experts that will harp on lists and effectiveness ratios as being the end all to effectiveness and efficiency. I’ll respond to that by pointing out that list, ratios, and the like are simply tools and can effect but only in a small way. If you truly want to multiply your effectiveness and time then I have only two words for you: attitude and consistency!
You need to realize that our mind is the most powerful tool we possess and if use it is amazing what can be done. Walt Disney is known for saying, “if you can dream it, you can do it!” That is so true. We are often the biggest obstacle to our own advancement and success. We do not believe, or at least we do not act like or do the things that demonstrate we believe.
Have you ever really closely watched a baby learning to walk? They pull themselves up on whatever is close and they attempt all manner of movements until they succeed. Are they graceful? No! Successful at the first.... not even! But eventually they get it and repeat it time and time again until they master it.
Let’s take that to the next step... have you ever watched a toddler try to throw something? Complete failure at first. In fact they don’t even let go and when they do it goes on the opposite direction...
So why should you, after experiencing a stroke expect to do everything the same or rapidly or with ease? Just because you used to do it? This is when the second word is of vital importance. Consistent! You need to learn again and be consistent in your practice.... learning takes time!
This past weekend I was chatting with a stroke survivor that I will interview soon for the podcast. I will probably have regular interviews with him because we could have talked for hours. He commented on the same things that the individual has to want to do what is necessary. We both held fast to the saying ... “you can lead a horse to water but yo can’t make him drink.” It’s true of stroke survivors too... they have to do the work... the repetition... and believe!
Well I’m certain that some of you are intrigued, other think I’m full of it and many want to know how to add time, be successful. First I’ll begin with a warning... be careful what you ask for because when you receive it you are responsible for the knowledge and passing it on. 1. You need to get up everyday thankful. 2. You must be committed to be consistent in applying energy and effort into working your mind and body. 3. You must be faithful to give to others... in a positive way... what you receive. It’s that simple! Notice I said simple and not easy... there are days when you would rather stay in bed... do something else or nothing at all. But you will remember I said believe and be consistent!
Do you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare (turtle and rabbit for you millennials). Slow is ok if you are consistent! If you really want to add a month you’ll do it by slowly multiplying your efforts. Adding to your exercises in small increments and repeating things slowly and consistently... do not attempt it all at once.
I’m 17+ years post stroke and for the first time last year I rode a bike! Now before my stroke I was quite athletic and there want much I couldn’t do. But post stroke I was wheelchair bound and struggled to do the simplest tasks. Do not give up! Seek out positive people and surround yourself with them.
I post positive quotes daily on Facebook and began adding them to my website weekly! Plan your future post stroke... I had young children when I had my stroke. They are successful because of my stroke and now I have grandchildren! Never say never... do because you can’t imagine anything else. I love the quote... “there are those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened!”
Be the person who makes things happen... good things... in yourself and those around you. Remember only you are responsible for how you chose to live! Live then! Do not simply exist, life is to be experienced and enjoyed!
